As a Milwaukee-based editorial and documentary photographer these are the venues I love. If you want effortlessly beautiful imagery but still value presence, seek a space that exudes style on its own but leaves room for personal infusion and creative endeavor.
The Pfister Hotel- Classic Elegance in Downtown Milwaukee
Why we love it
The Pfister Hotel offers classic architecture, soaring ceilings, and timeless elegance—perfect for couples looking for editorial wedding photography. Its grand ballrooms, sweeping staircases, and intricate details provide endless opportunities for a documentary approach, creating intimate moments that feel effortless and cinematic.
Favorite Spots
The grand staircase overlooking the lobby, the historic hotel suites, stunning paintings as backdrops for portraits and details, the sexiest elevator, the balcony overlooking the ballroom, the iconic red awning and the surrounding city architecture.
Villa Terrace Museum & Gardens- European Gardens and Art Led Aesthetics
Why we love it
Villa Terrace is a hidden gem for couples wanting a venue with both natural beauty and artistic character. Its terraced gardens, courtyard fountain, and historic Italian-style architecture make it ideal for capturing editorial photos that feel sophisticated yet real. A go to for couples that want to infuse their design tastes and unique story into their wedding day. This venue is perfect for editorial photos rooted in emotion. A truly cinematic location where the entire experience is felt and easily documented in a breathtaking way.
Favorite Spots
In addition to every spot, we love the courtyard and all the different documentary perspectives it provides, the lake view, the gardens, the wall paper in the Zuber gallery room, the library, and the dressing room (don't forget some editorial bridals in the bathtub). The most perfect documentary capture being an overhead dinner party photo looking down at the Terrazzo della Luna from the balcony. This one allows the party to be felt and remembered always.
Milwaukee Art Museum- Modern and Fashion Forward
The "it girl" venue of Milwaukee
Why we love it
The Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM) is a standout for couples who love clean lines, natural light, and modern architecture. While it's usually booked out by traditional, fine art weddings- this space is waiting for a couple to bring a cool girl aesthetic. Think NY creatives bringing their own design ideas and truly utilizing the space beyond clean, white bridals. Lots of editorial flash, moodier gallery shots and immersive experiences for guests could truly bring an edgy approach.
Favorite Spots
Its striking spaces, including the Quadracci Pavilion work for both editorial and documentary photography. Editorial imagery is a given with the minimalist backdrops and iconic architectural features. Don't forget to explore the galleries for some documentary images.
The open space is begging for a luxury backdrop experience. The long corridors are easy to create in. Try something different by taking some editorials on the Reiman bridge at dusk with flash and then some romantic documentary shots with the city lit up behind you before returning to your epic party.
St. James 1968- Classic Charm Meets Luxury
Why we love it
For couples drawn to history and character, St. James 1868 offers stunning architectural features, classic design details and a luxury atmosphere. This venue is perfect for editorial-style photography that feels modern while honoring the charm of the space. Known for their sleek professionalism the team behind the venue leads every event with precision which has become part of the experience. Visions are created and executed here.
Favorite Spots
The Abbey and the english style courtyard are both perfect for some traditional editorials. Think one partner standing and the other seated. Be sure to utilize the upstairs landing with the luxurious tile design for details. The iconic red doors are a must for portraits and so much can be done for editorials with the classic black gates, think Central park with some greens in the background.
The Library across the street offers more stunning architecture and the perfect spot for some documentary wide shots with the venue in the background. Don't miss the endless opportunities for luxury bridals in the getting ready suites. But most importantly really utilize your reception space. St. James is known for their exquisite reception design with unique table floor plans and luxury checkered dance floors. Have your photographer bring a spot light and create some effortlessly cool party photos.
Gather at Deer District
Why we love it
Gather is built for editorial without trying to be. Clean lines, open space, and floor-to-ceiling light—you’re working inside something already composed. An elevated and restrained design. The terrace overlooking the Fiserv Forum brings city energy to your event—movement, skyline, people in motion. And with The Trade Hotel steps away, the day stays visually consistent from start to finish.
Favorite Spots
Staying at The Trade Hotel is a must for editorial getting ready shots and endless photo opportunities. Be sure to take daylight direct flash photos of Gather's balcony and some classic portraits in front of the modern black backdrop and the floor to ceiling windows inside. Explore old world for some documentary street shots and the riverwalk is nearby for those classic Milwaukee skyline views.
Bacchus - A Bartolotta Restaurant for the intimate and elevated
Why we love it
Refined without trying. For the couple that cares deeply for design but wants nothing to do with traditional guest counts. It's exclusive in nature, intimate in feeling and grounded in a point of view. From an english garden party to a unique city dining experience you can create a truly immersive celebration in this space.
Favorite Spots
The awning entrance gives New York without trying and the whole block holds some of the best architecture in the city. The park across the street will be Central Park with the right photographer. The lobby offers rich wood for moodier flash photos that contrast perfectly with the light filled conservatory.
